Description: The Bad Aussee Clinic was sited sensitively in the landscape within the overall urban development concept for the Ausseerland Health Park. The large building project was subdivided into three structures, which for their part conform with the rolling topography of the construction site through tiering. Differently sized half-open courtyards provide the buildings with a connection to the beautiful Ausseer countryside and incorporate this into the interior spaces. The division into three buildings corresponds with the internal organization of the clinic. The so-called Synergy Module on Salzkammergutstrasse houses all central clinic functions. The two residential buildings are sited away from the road with beautiful views of the mountain scenery. Division of the façades follows a simple principle. The large glazed surfaces in the communal areas form a fascinating contrast with the small single windows in the residential and administrative areas. Everything is held together by a uniform covering of grey-brown, horizontally-laid, fibrated cement panels. The color of the fibrated cement panels is aligned with that of the rock in the surrounding mountains. As a result of the muted coloring, which changes depending on the amount of sunlight, lending the structures a lighter or darker appearance, the buildings merge inconspicuously into the surrounding countryside in spite of their considerable size. The natural color of the larch windows emphasizes the contrast between glass and façade surfaces, as well as creating a homely atmosphere in the rooms.
